Every daylight hour gets a score from 0 to 10, colored like a lifeguard’s flag.

0 to 4Red, poor

What goes in

Air and water temperature, wind and gusts, wave height, rain chance, cloud and UV, for that beach and that hour.

What caps it

Storms, strong rip currents and water quality advisories hold the score in the red, however sunny it looks. Where we have no safety data, we say “not available”.
